Being Christ
A personal account of an experience with Jesus Christ by Brother Elias, starting with the Gospel of Matthew, chapter 5, verse 14.
I notice the people standing around Jesus, listening to his words of blessing, kindness, and compassion. He says, “Each of you is the light of the world, but you don’t realize it. I am not saying that one day you might become the light of the world. You are the light of the world, right now.”
I ask, “What is humility?”
Jesus smiles into my eyes and replies: humility is truth. The word derives from the Latin humus, meaning earth. To be humble is to be earthed in reality. I am Humility, totally connected with things as they are.”
The discourse ends; women, men, and children slowly drift away from the scene.
Everyone is gone, but I remain, facing Jesus at a slight distance. “I’m glad you stayed”, he says. “Now you can be more fully who you have always been: the incarnation of my kindness and compassion.” Christ’s face shines like the sun. His body is radiant. One of his hands gestures toward his heart. He holds the other out in a warm, welcoming embrace. Jesus sends streams of white light from his forehead to mine.
It flows throughout all that I am, washing away traces of narcissism and negativities of body, speech, and mind. Now from His heart, Jesus blesses me with his kindness and compassion. His divine energies come to me in the form of rays of brilliant red light.
They flow directly into my heart, which is growing more and more immense, filled with his gentle loving-kindness. Next, I welcome rays of piercing blue light that flow from Jesus’ eyes into mine. As the light flows in, I feel my eyes becoming the light of His eyes.
From Jesus’ hands and feet, yellow light flows and is absorbed into my hands and feet. As the light continues to flow, I feel my longing that Jesus may come closer and closer to me. I realize that I want nothing separate from Him. Now, I see Jesus drawing closer and closer until there is no separation from Him. Now, we are one, yet two. Two, yet one.
I absorb some of his qualities: kindness, compassion, stillness, silence, patience and a listening filled with reverence. I stay in this space a few minutes. As the power of the visualization fades, I thank Jesus for helping me to be his presence in the world. To be His body in this world, his hands and feet. Now, when others see me, they will see His face. When they feel my touch. They will feel my touch.
